In 2015, The Kindness Rocks Project was launched with a simple rock left on a bench stating – “You’ve got this”.  As the trend of painting kindness rocks continues to grow, the project remains true to its original intention of spreading kindness to others.

In March, 2023 – THE AVENUE at White Marsh created its very own Kindness Rocks Garden.  Those visiting the center are encouraged to leave a rock when they can or take one when needed. Here’s how it works. Paint a rock to add and bring joy to others. You don’t need to be an artist – just someone with kindness in your heart. If you find a rock that will help you with your day, it’s yours to take. Then, re-hide it for someone else to find when you’re ready.

We would like to thank Jennifer Harryman, with Kindness Rocks of Maryland – KRM, for her talent and support in creating our large statement rock that reads – “One small act of kindness can change the world.”

Below are a few helpful tips from Jennifer for those interested in supporting the garden. It doesn’t take much. All you need is the desire to share kindness and some basic supplies.  Make it a party activity!

1st – You’ll need some rocks (just starting out, you can grab a bag at Home Depot or Lowes for about $10-$12) Later as your art grows you may branch out and try other types, but that’s not needed.
2nd- Get some inexpensive craft paint!
3rd – Get a couple brushes (from any craft place).
4th – Look around online, at Pinterest, google search painted rocks and whatever it is you want to paint to find some inspiration. Once you know what you want to paint, have fun!!
5th – The next step is to seal your creations with clear spray paint. Use a couple coats with a good amount of drying time in between. Make sure to seal the front & back of your creations or they won’t survive out in the weather. The backs need to be sealed to make them safe from rain & moisture.
6th – The last and most important step is the desire to share Kindness with the world and have Fun! Don’t stress over detail or perfection, just make it Fun. ❤️ There are people everywhere in need of reasons to smile. ❤️

Don’t forget to tag those creations with “Kindness Rocks of Maryland”, “KRM” or “KRM on FB” so you can see where they travel and maybe even hear stories of the lives you touched with your kindness. ❤️❤️
❤️❤️Happy Rocking Everyone!❤️❤️
